HOSTEL-LIFE

1. Introduction. 2. Description. 3. Advantages. 4. Disadvantages. 5. Conclusion

1. In schools and colleges many students come to read from far-off places. They cannot come from and go back to their homes daily. Hence, they live in hostels. Many students live in the hostel even though their home is not far-off. The reason is that in the hostel they get facilities (found for study.

2. The hostel-life is very pleasant ( ). Students live in their homes under the strict control ( a t ) of their parents and other elders ( a ). They cannot talk or move about freely. In the hostel they breathe (ata A) for the first time an air of regulated ( ) freedom. They mix freely with one another In hostel-life, the boarders ( ra) get full opportunity

(अवसर) for their mental (मानसिक) and physical (शारीरिक) development

(fata). There are arrangements ( for physical exercises

(mafcATATA) as well as garnes and sports in the hostel. They have

to live under a strict discipline ( EFT). They have to obey the

rules of the hostel

There is a superintendent ( 6) in each hostel. He looks after the management ( ) of the hostel. He also looks after the health and conduct (af) of the boarders. The boarders have to carry out (पालन करना) his orders. The relationship between the boarders and the superintendent is generally very good. The superintendent looks upon the boarders as his own children. The students are required to read during the study-period ( a a na ) There are also debating societies (वाद-विवाद-समितियाँ) and libraries in the hostel. The boarders borrow (LH) books from the library and read newspapers there. They also take part in debates (ar-far). In this way, they develop both their body and mind. 3. There are many advantages (en) of the hostel-life. In a hostel, the boys get several facilities (farand) for study. They have

to obey rules. So, they learn discipline. They have to do every work

at a fixed time. Thus they form regular (Fra) habits. They treat

one another as members of the same family. They learn to share

each other's joys and sorrows. A hostel is an ideal place for character-building (for-foru). It gives useful training for real life. 4. As there is nothing wholly good, so there are some defects (en) in hostel-life too. In a hostel, young boys and girls miss the loving care and fondness (97) of their parents and other members of the family. Besides this, in a hostel. students often get very bad meals. The food is cooked by cooks (that) and it is they who manage the mess. They buy cheap ( ) and bad stuff ( ). They cannot prepare varieties (fafara ) as in our homes.
