1. Almost every school has a debating society. The debating society organizes ( a e debates. In a debate the speakers express their views on a subject. Some speakers put their argu ments (ek) in favour of the subject. Others speak against the topic (for). So, a debate is a lively discussion (5)

2. The school debating society has a secretary (*) and a president. A student who is interested in debates is nominated ( a fT ST ) secretary of the debating society. He makes arrangements for holding debates. A teacher of the school is the president of the debating society. All students of the school are members of the debating society. Debates are held on fixed (for) days. The topic (feat for a debate is fixed a few days before the debate is held. The students who want to take part in the debate give their names to the secretary. The president of the debating society presides over the debate. He asks a student to open the debate. Then another student speaks against the topic. In this way the speakers of both sides are allowed to express their views on the topic. At last the president gives his own views and puts the topic to vote. The students who like the topic vote for it. Those who do not like it vote against it. If the majority (f t) of students vote for it, the motion is carried. Otherwise it is lost.

3. The school debating society is very useful. It teaches students the art of speaking. Debating is a necessary part of education. An educated man must be able to express his views clearly and effectively. Mar.y good students cannot speak in public. In the class-rooms they learn to express themselves in writing. If they do not know the art of speaking, their education is incomplete (374) So, the debating society plays an important role. It encourages (प्रोत्साहित करती है) students to develop their power of thinking and speaking. A student who takes part in debates can face a gathering boldly. He does not cut a sorry figure when he has to speak in public. So, the debating society enables (9 Arat) students to express their views clearly and forcefully.

4. It is necessary for the students of a school to take part in debates. If they do not know the art of speaking, they cannot pull through life. Their education will be incomplete if they do not take part in debates,
